The Ghost type is one of the 18 Pokémon elemental types. Most Ghost-type Pokémon have high Special Attack but have weaker Defense and Special Defense, but there are some exceptions. Their most noticeable properties are the immunities to Fighting-type and Normal-type attacks. Ghost-type Pokémon are also known to have access to certain status moves to inflict on opponents such as Will-O-Wisp, Confuse Ray, and Curse. From the core series games Pokémon X and Y onwards, they can escape all trapping moves and abilities (despite still taking damage from trapping attacks), in addition to being able to run away from any wild encounter regardless of level, without any aid from held items or the Run Away ability.

Trivia

  • There are no Ghost-type moves with an accuracy lower than 100%.
  • The only Ghost-type moves with more than 80 base power are Shadow Force and Phantom Force. Both moves take two turns to execute and hit even if the target is protecting itself.
  • The Ghost type is the only type immune to attacks from two types: Normal and Fighting.
    • As Normal-type Pokémon also take no damage from Ghost-type moves, Ghost and Normal are the only 2 types possessing immunity against each other.
  • No Pokémon possess a double resistance to Ghost.
  • Before Pokémon X and Y, Sableye and Spiritomb were the only two Pokémon without weaknesses because of type match-ups.
  • The Ghost type shares its super effectiveness with the Dark type, with both types being only strong against Ghost-type and Psychic-type Pokémon.
  • Ghost-type Pokémon are weak to attacks from their own type. The only other type that shares this trait is Dragon.
