The Electric type is one of the 18 Pokémon elemental types. It is one of the two types that have only 1 weakness — Electric-type Pokémon are only weak to Ground-type moves, while Electric-type attacks have no effect on Ground-type Pokémon. On the other hand, moves that belong to this type are super effective to Water-type and Flying-type Pokémon. From the core series games Pokémon X and Y onwards, Electric-type Pokémon possess an immunity to paralysis.

Normally Electric is excluded from the "main types in Pokémon", which only contain Fire, Water and Grass. However, with Pikachu being the mascot of Pokémon and available as the only Starter Pokémon in Pokémon Yellow, Electric is sometimes considered as the fourth main type. Electric-type attacks also share a common trait of being resisted by Dragon-type Pokémon with the moves from the other 3 main types, Water, Fire, and Grass.
