Lake Guardians are the trio of Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon Mesprit, Azelf and Uxie. Introduced in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they protect the 3 famous lakes in Sinnoh and have an important role in the legends of that region.
About[]
Mesprit, Azelf, and Uxie guard Lake Verity, Valor and Acuity respectively in Sinnoh, hence their group name, "Lake Guardians". They all belong to the Psychic type and share a common Ability, Levitate, which is evident in how they float. They all resemble spirits, while they represent emotion, willpower and knowledge respectively as well.
Each of them has different stat distribution in battling. Azelf focuses in offense and speed, while Uxie is the defensive one. Mesprit has balanced stats, which made it the slowest of the three. Personality-wise, Mesprit is known to be mischievous, proven that it went roaming around Sinnoh after events on Spear Pillar, Mt. Coronet. On the other hand, Uxie's eyes are always closed — it is rumoured that Uxie can wipe out the memories of whoever sees its opened eyes.
In the Sinnoh legends, the Lake Guardians were created by Arceus to partially balance out the strength of Creation Trio (Dialga, Palkia and Giratina), such that when one of them lost control of itself, the combined power of Lake Guardians would be sufficient to neutralize the threat. However, if 2 of them went on a rampage at the same time, the Lake Guardians would be overpowered.
Obtaining the Lake Guardians[]
In Pokémon Brick Bronze, instead of Set or Roaming encounters, they are found by underwater mining deep in Lagoona Trenches, through Fossilized Eggs which are unique to this game. These Eggs are extremely rare, and when brought for revival in Lagoona Lake Lab, the Eggs have a 15% chance of reviving into one of the Lake Guardians — most of the time, however, they yield Togepi Eggs instead. Note that soft resetting does not alter the results of revival. This also marks that Lake Guardians are the only Legendary Pokémon to be available as Eggs in this game.

Trivia[]
- All of the three Lake Guardians possess red jewels on their head. This is also reflected in their Egg designs. In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, when captured by Team Galactic, their jewels were used for crafting the Red Chain for summoning either Dialga or Palkia (in the case of Pokémon Platinum, both).
- Azelf Eggs are often confused with Phione Eggs, which also have a red jewel on top and are in blue, though they are a lighter shade.
