Evolutionary Stones are a set of items which evolve certain Pokémon species. Other than levelling up and having maximum happiness with the trainer, applying Evolutionary Stones is one of the main methods of Pokémon evolution.
About[]
There are 11 kinds of Evolutionary Stones currently, with Ice Stone being the newest addition, introduced in the most recent core series game Pokémon Sun and Moon. All Evolutionary Stones are available in Pokémon Brick Bronze, yet their rarity differ greatly — 7 kinds of stones are commonly dug out in Lagoona Trenches (5 of them being purchasable at the Stone Shop in Anthian City - Shopping District as well), while the remaining 3 were once found by picking up on field only and were very scarce. However, they are now also available for purchase in BP Shop, Colosseum Marketplace for 76 BP.
Most of the stones are directly used on a Pokémon to trigger evolution that cannot be cancelled, with the exception of Oval Stone, which must be given to Happiny for holding, and a level up during daytime will initiate evolution once the stone is held. All kinds of Evolutionary Stones are consumed upon a successful evolution. Some stones also have unique usages — a Dawn Stone only works for a specific gender of the compatible Pokémon, while Ice Stones only activate when applied to Ice-type Alola Form Pokémon.
Certain Pokémon species can even have access to branched evolved forms through different stones, with the most famous example being the first 3 Eeveelutions. Other well-known branch evolutions include Gloom evolving into Vileplume through Leaf Stone and Bellossom through Sun Stone.
It is noted that most Pokémon that evolve through these stones have their movesets deteriorate drastically after evolution, some of them learning no new and stronger attacks at all. Thus it is not recommended to evolve them early on, except Eevee, Happiny, Togetic, Kirlia and Snorunt.

Trivia[]
- All compatible Pokémon that use the Leaf Stone to evolve are Grass-type Pokémon.
- Also, all of the Pokémon that evolve via a Leaf Stone have a dual type afterwards. The only exception to this is Simisage.
- All Pokémon that evolve with a Fire Stone are in the same Egg Group: Field.
- This is also the case with the Ice Stone
